Our Summer Camp at FAST + Ina A. Colen Academy (INA) combines swim instruction, structured activities, and supervised play to create a fun, engaging, and safe environment for every camper.
Each day is thoughtfully designed to balance skill-building, movement, creativity, and social time—all led by experienced staff.

Morning at FAST

Your child’s morning focuses on swimming, skill development, and water-based fun:

  • Arrival & Breakfast Time
  • Swim Lessons (9:30 AM – 11:30 AM)
    Led by certified instructors and experienced swimmers, focusing on technique and safety
  • Free Swim & Water Activities
    Games like basketball, volleyball, and dive toys
  • Snack Break
  • Dryland Games
    Activities like kickball, soccer, cornhole, and more
  • Lunch & Transition Prep

Campers rotate between swim lessons and free swim based on age group to ensure personalized attention and safety.

Morning Drop-Off

  • Time: No earlier than 7:45 AM
  • Location: FAST Front Desk

Parents/guardians must:

  • Escort their child inside
  • Sign them in with a staff member
  • Notify staff of any pickup changes

If arriving after 8:30 AM, staff will assist with escorting your child to camp.

Afternoon at INA

In the afternoon, campers transition to Ina Colen Academy for a mix of indoor and outdoor fun:

  • Supervised Walk from FAST to INA
  • Group Games & Theme Activities
  • Gym & Playground Time
  • Crafts & Creative Activities
  • Snack Time
  • Free Play & Social Time
  • Occasional Movie Time to Wind Down

Each week features a fun theme like Under the Sea, Superhero Academy, or Olympic Games Week to keep things fresh and exciting.

Afternoon Pick-Up

  • Time: By 5:00 PM
  • Location: Back Gate of Ina Colen Academy
  • Campers are ready by 4:30 PM
  • Early pickup? Text 352-425-1042
  • Photo ID required for pickup
  • Child must be signed out before leaving

Late Pickup Policy

  • 5:15–5:30 PM → $5
  • 5:30–6:00 PM → $10
  • After 6:00 PM → $20

Repeated late pickups may result in removal from camp.

Safety & Supervision

Camper safety is our top priority:

  • Supervised transitions between FAST and INA
  • Multiple counselors per group + Risk Management staff
  • Structured swim testing to ensure water safety
  • Organized activities with staff oversight at all times

What to Bring

Please send your camper with:

  • Swimsuit
  • Sunscreen
  • Lunch
  • Two towels
  • Reusable water bottle (labeled)
  • Optional: money for snacks

Items Not Allowed

  • Phones or electronic devices
  • Toys or valuables

(FAST is not responsible for lost or damaged items)

Meals

  • Breakfast & lunch are not provided, only snacks
  • Lunch is only provided on Fridays for Pizza Fridays
  • Notify staff of allergies or dietary needs in advance
  • You may send a packed lunch if preferred

Behavior Expectations

We maintain a positive, respectful environment. Campers are expected to:

  • Stay with their group
  • Follow safety rules
  • Ask permission when needed

Bullying or unsafe behavior will not be tolerated.

Discipline may include:

  • Verbal warnings
  • Timeouts
  • Parent communication
  • Removal from camp (if necessary)

Special Considerations

If your child has any:

  • Medical needs
  • Behavioral considerations
  • Special accommodations

Please notify staff and the Program Director before camp begins.

Weekly Kickoff

At the start of each week:

  • Campers receive a schedule of activities
  • New campers meet staff and review expectations

Rain or Shine

Camp runs as scheduled regardless of weather.
Indoor activities will be adjusted as needed.

  • No refunds, credits, or transfers once a camp week begins

FAQ’s

What should campers bring each day?

Please make sure your child brings the following items:
(Label all Items with your child’s name)

    • Lunch
    • Swimsuit
    • Towel
    • Sunscreen
    • Goggles (optional)
    • Change of clothes
    • Sneakers and Crocs or water shoes
    • Backpack (must be able to close and be worn on the back) (REQUIRED)
    • Water bottle labeled with your child’s name

Optional items:

    • Extra snacks (snacks are also provided)
    • Money for the café (if they wish to purchase food or drinks)

Please note:

  • No phones allowed
  • No personal toys or items
  • No sharing food or money (Unless a sibling)
  • If your child has any severe allergies, please note them while signing up

What if my child cannot swim or is afraid of the water?

  • Campers who want to swim but cannot yet do so should bring a life jacket. (Limited extras are available, but bringing your own is recommended.)
  • Swim lessons are provided Monday–Thursday for all campers.

If a camper prefers not to swim:

  • They may use the splash pad
  • Participate in dry-land games
  • Stay with a counselor for indoor or field activities

Who helps campers change or apply sunscreen?

  • If a younger camper has an older sibling, the sibling may assist them.
  • With parent approval, a female counselor may assist younger campers with changing and sunscreen application.

Who supervises the campers?

Our camp counselors include:

  • Teachers
  • Paraprofessionals
  • School aftercare staff

All staff members undergo background checks.

How are campers grouped? Can friends stay together?

Campers are grouped by age and grade:

  • Tadpoles: Ages 6–7 (Kindergarten graduates, 1st–2nd grade)
  • Minnows: Ages 8–9 (3rd–4th grade)
  • Goldfish: Ages 10–11 (5th–6th grade)
  • Sea Turtles: Ages 12–14 (7th–8th grade)

We do our best to accommodate friend requests within appropriate age groups.

What are drop-off and pick-up policies?

  • Drop-off begins at 8:00 AM (up to 5 minutes early)
  • Pick-up is by 5:00 PM

Late pick-up policy:

  • After 5:00 PM: Late fee may apply
  • After 5:10 PM: Parent/guardian will be contacted
  • Between 5:30–6:00 PM: Continued contact attempts
  • After 6:00 PM: Authorities may be contacted if no response

Can campers take medication at camp?

Camp staff are not permitted to administer medication.

  • Parents/guardians must come to camp to administer medication or pick up their child.
  • If your child is unwell (fever, vomiting, etc.), please keep them home.

What happens if my child becomes sick or injured at camp?

If a camper becomes ill:

  • Parents/guardians will be contacted for pick-up if necessary
  • Camper may wait in the office or a separate area until pick-up

Campers should not attend if they have:

  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Contagious symptoms
  • Significant injury etc.

If a minor injury occurs:

  • An incident report will be completed
  • Parents will be notified promptly

In a life threatening emergency:

  • Staff will call 911 first
  • Then notify the parent/guardian immediately

What if my child misses camp?

If a camper misses camp due to illness or vacation, please refer to FAST’s no refund policy.

For further questions if this situation occurs call the front desk at 352 – 820 – 4222 and they will forward information to our Business Manager.

What does swim time look like?

  • Campers swim twice per day:
  • Morning: Open swim + 30-minute swim lesson
  • Afternoon: Free swim

If campers are at INA ALL day, they will have:

  • Double gym time instead of swimming

If campers are at FAST in the morning and INA in the afternoon:

  • Swim time (approximately 2 hours) occurs in the morning
  • Gym activities take place at INA in the afternoon

How are behavior issues or disputes handled?

FAST maintains a zero-tolerance policy for bullying.

Disciplinary steps:

  1. Warning, parent or guardian contact, and separation
  2. Write up, Parent contact, and same-day suspension
  3. Removal from summer camp program

Severe incidents may result in immediate removal without prior steps.

For minor disputes: Staff will mediate and notify parents

Who should I contact with questions or concerns?

  • Please contact the Camp Director or Business Manager
  • Call the front desk at 352-820-4222 to get in contact with one of them

If unavailable:

  • A message will be taken and your information
  • One of them will return your call as soon as possible

Who is allowed to pick up my child if not the parent?

  • Only individuals listed on the authorized pick-up list may pick up a child
  • Or if a parent/guardian calls to approve an individual for pick up, ID verification is required.

If someone not on the list arrives:

  • Parents/guardians will be contacted for approval
  • ID verification is required.

If authorization cannot be confirmed:

  • The child will not be released
  • Authorities may be contacted if necessary

Daily sign-in and sign-out by a parent/guardian is REQUIRED.

Swim Test Requirements

Campers must demonstrate the following skills

  1. Swim on their back for a few body lengths
  2. Swim with their face in the water for a few body lengths while showing moderate confidence
  3. Tread water for 10 seconds

Our summer camp Dryland Games include:

  • Cornhole
  • Flag Football
  • Soccer
  • Kickball
  • Volleyball
  • Football
  • Frisbee ETC.

Half-Day Campers (Dismissal at 12:00 PM)

  • Half-day campers are dismissed promptly at 12:00 PM
  • A Camp Counselor or Lead will escort campers to the designated pickup area
  • A designated guardian must sign out campers at the front desk or gate if at the school

Preparation

  • Campers line up by age group in their classrooms

Counselors are walking on the outside with their groups at all times

Campers and Counselors are escorted by FAST Staff Members on golf carts to ensure safety and guidance through cross walks

Group Pairings

  • Tadpoles & Sea Turtles walk together
  • Minnows & Goldfish walk together

Arrival

  • Upon arrival at Ina, campers transition into their scheduled afternoon activities
